About
Recognised for their vibrant musical identity and compelling sound, the Resol String Quartet is emerging as one of the UK’s most exciting chamber ensembles. Formed in 2018 at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the quartet entered a new chapter in 2024 with the arrival of violinist Eliette Harris and cellist Chloe Randall, who join violinist Annabel Kidd and violist Raphael Chinn.
Since their formation, the Resol Quartet has developed a distinctive and energetic presence on the UK chamber music scene. In 2021 they won both First Prize and the Audience Prize at the CAVATINA Chamber Music Competition at Wigmore Hall, made their debut at Perth Concert Hall, and were named one of Chamber Music Scotland’s Ones to Watch. Their performances have gained national attention, with broadcasts on BBC Radio Scotland’s Classics Unwrapped and appearances at the BBC Scotland Scotland’s People Awards.
Recent seasons have brought a series of notable artistic milestones. The quartet made their Conway Hall debut in the historic Sunday Concert Series and were selected as Britten Pears Young Artists in Aldeburgh, where highlights included a performance of Arthur Bliss’s Oboe Quintet with Nicholas Daniel OBE. In June 2025, they made their debut at the St Magnus International Festival, presenting three concerts and collaborating with pianists Mihai Ritivoiu and Nikita Lukinov. Their work has been supported by Creative Scotland, the National Lottery, and the Hinrichsen Foundation, and has drawn critical praise for its depth and intensity. Edinburgh Music Review wrote: “The Resol Quartet really got under the skin of this profound music and delivered a performance as finely nuanced and impactful as I have heard.”
Alongside their concert work, the Resol Quartet maintains a strong commitment to education and community engagement. They hold ongoing partnerships with Oban High School, Handcross Park School, and Worth School in Sussex where they adjudicated the Young Musician of the Year Competition. Many of their education programmes are delivered in partnership with Creative Scotland and the Hope Scott Trust, and in the past year the quartet collaborated with the Music Hub in Milngavie to lead a day of chamber music coaching for adult student ensembles.
The quartet is part of the Chamber Studio 24/25 cohort and undertook an intensive ten-day residency with the Drimnin Trust in December 2025. They continue to draw inspiration from a wide lineage of mentors and teachers, including members of the Brodsky, Fitzwilliam and Maxwell String Quartets, Donald Grant, Elena Urioste, and others who have shaped their artistic development.
